Rev. ‘Wale Akinronbi: My Dreams, My Promises, My Fears

I believe we all have DREAMS and PROMISES in our hearts. It may be in form of a word from God, may be a prophetic word was released over your life that you are holding on to; or while you were studying the scriptures, a word leaped from the verse of the scripture you were studying; or may be while you were praying you received a word in your spirit from God and you are believing God for all these words to come to fulfilment.

Meanwhile somewhere on the other side of our heart is this silent hidden FEAR of uncertainty, which baths questions that we cannot provide answers to. We all have dreams, aspiration and words that we are holding on too, but somewhere we all have this silent fears that makes us ask questions like, HOW WOULD ALL THESE HAPPEN? WHEN WILL IT HAPPEN? HOW SURE AM I THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN? WOULD GOD’S PROMISES FOR ME COME TO PASS?

Fear is the major force that has being destroying God’s promises in our life. Fear makes potent promises impotent. Fear deprives precious exceeding promises its efficacy (ability to produce after its kind). Fear is that which makes the truth look like ‘so it was all a lie’. There are people’s dreams today at the cemetery not because it was not meant to be materialized but because they allowed fear suffocate life out of those dreams. Some of God’s promises in our live have tarried, some nullified because the owner of those promises allowed fear to come in. Fear is a factor we all can relate with. We have our plans and goals for the future but fear clouds our eyes with questions of who would help us, where would we go: fear of the unknown.

After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Research has shown that the word ‘fear not’ appears 365 times in the bible – meaning there is a fear not for ‘every day’ of the year from the Lord to you. Why the Lord tells us to fear not is because the things we are dealing with. Naturally, we ought to have fear for them but God reassures us with his word not to be afraid because He is our exceeding great reward.

God did not say to Abraham ‘I have a shield’ God said ‘I AM’ and what he said to Abraham, He is also saying to us because we are the seeds of Abraham by faith and heirs according to the promise. God himself is the shield protecting us 24/7.God is our shield. When you understand that, it paralyzes fear. It permits you to do things without fear, when you know ‘I AM’ is my shield.

God said to Abraham ‘I am your exceedingly great reward’ meaning gold is not your reward, neither money nor cars and other materials things are our reward. But God is our reward. Anybody that has God has everything. And because of the ignorance of most men, they tend to pick gold over God meaning that God can wait. This happens due to the lack of understanding that when you choose God, Gold would follow after you.

Genesis 15:2
And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, SEEING I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Abraham tried to reason and give God facts of how his promise over his life would not come to pass, like for example his age and how time was running out on him. But something Abraham didn’t know was that with God, time is inconsequential. Even the bible says God fires time. God enjoys it when the condition looks impossible. When you come to the end of yourself then God come to the beginning of Himself. Take the life of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3:16-27) for example. All the while, God was watching, God said nothing as they were tying them up and heating up the fire. Even the King was so sure of himself that there was no God that would save them. Unknown to them that God was waiting in the burning furnace already. He said when you pass through the waters ‘I would watch over you’.

Another example is the case study of Lazarus; Jesus waited purposely for some days before He raised him up from the dead, to show the world how powerful He is. One of my daughters’ aunt had being waiting for the fruit of the womb for twelve years, when God decided to show up, He visited them with triplets. When it seems like God is delaying, God is actually planning something Big, and He is never intimidated by time. If God is involved in your situation forget about time.

Genesis 15:3-6
And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
Abraham’s problem was FEAR. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Then God decided to show Abraham in a vision what He had promised him before Abraham started to believe and He was made right with God. God gets excited when you believe His word. God’s greatest joy is to be believed, his greatest pain is to be doubted.

Genesis 15: 7-8
And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

It was the same Abraham that just believed God now that was still asking God the same question. This particular question was what gave birth to the subject COVENANT in the bible. Abraham was asking that sort of question from a God that made light shine forth out of darkness, meaning that darkness didn’t understand how possible it was for light to come from it. The bible says Abraham believed God; I want to ask you, did Abraham really believe God?

Genesis 16:8
Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

If Abraham truly believed God, would he have gone in to sleep with Hagar? It was the fear of ‘see, I go childless’ that made him hearken to the voice of his wife. Abraham forgot about the promise God had made. You don’t have to help God to bring to pass what he has promised you, rather you need God’s help.

Genesis 17:1
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

All the corners Abraham tried to cut for God’s promise to come to manifestation only made the promises to be prolonged because they were not in line with God’s plan for his life.

Genesis 17:15-17
And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

Notice Abraham also laughed in disbelieve as Sarah did when the three Angels came to tell them they shall birth a child. Abraham was literarily telling God to stop encouraging and motivating him to hold on to the promise and believe.

But I want you to remember that God is bigger than that situation you are facing. It took Abraham twenty five solid years to come to experience God’s promise over his life. It doesn’t have to take us that long a time to actually come to the full manifestation of God’s promises and dreams over our life. That is why there is another generation called the “Mary Generation”. A generation that says even though I have not seen it yet, but for the fact it’s coming from the lord, I believe in it never the less; “be it unto me according to your word”. I believe Mary’s prophecy came to pass as soon as she believed, because the bible says six months later, after she received the word, she was six months pregnant.

Don’t give up on your dreams. Don’t quite now; God’s word would come to pass. If Joseph’s word could come to pass, then your word shall come to pass also. Don’t pray for your enemies to die, let them see the goodness of God in your life. Hold on to God’s unchanging word. There is nothing you are passing through that frightens God, because he wrote the scripts of your life, He knows the end from the beginning. The moment God shows up on your behalf that is it, God does not need a decade, just a minute is more than enough for GOD.

PRAYER: Pray for your dreams and promises; speak into the atmosphere that nothing would stop my dream from coming to pass. Call forth help, people, and resources from the four corners of this world, and that your dreams would be a blessing to other.
